  1. Blind Architect Inspires Design for UPMC Vision and Rehabilitation Institute

    Chris Downey, an architect from San Francisco who lost his sight 10 years ago, tells his story on “60 Minutes.” An inspiring and motivational story of overcoming adversity, and actually becoming better at his job, Mr. Downey now advises and consults the HOK and CJL teams on the design of the new UPMC Vision and Rehabilitation Institute in Pittsburgh’s uptown neighborhood.

  2. Master Builders Association Announces Finalists for Building Excellence Awards

    The Master Builders Association of Western Pennsylvania has announced the finalists for its 2018 Building Excellence Awards.

    CJL Engineering was part of two nominated projects:

    In the category “Renovation Construction Over $10 Million,” Rycon Construction, Inc. has been nominated for the CMU Hamerschlag Hall Maker Wing Renovation project. CJL Engineering worked with the architects GBBN on the lighting and electrical renovation.

    In the category “Renovation Construction Under $5 Million,” Landau Building Company has been nominated for the East Liberty Presbyterian Church – Building Our Future project. CJL Engineering worked with the architects Pfaffman & Associates on mechanical and electrical systems upgrades.

    The winning projects will be revealed at The Construction Industry Evening of Excellence, which will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at the Heinz Field East Club.
